What size mini split do I need for a 500 sq ft room?

A 12,000 BTU mini split system is typically ideal for a 500 square foot space.

What size mini split do I need for a 500 sq ft room?

A 12,000 BTU mini split system is typically ideal for a 500 square foot space.

How do I choose the right size mini split system for my room?

Mini split capacity is measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units) based on your space's square footage. As a general guide: • 500–700 sq. ft.: 12,000 BTU (1 Ton) • 700–1,000 sq. ft.: 18,000 BTU (1.5 Ton) • 1,000–1,500 sq. ft.: 24,000 BTU (2 Ton) Factors like ceiling height, sun exposure, and insulation also impact your heat load. Use our online BTU Calculator or contact our expert sales team at (737) 738-6329 for a free sizing assessment.

What is the difference between single-zone and multi-zone mini splits?

A single-zone mini split pairs one outdoor condenser with one indoor air handler, ideal for cooling or heating a single room, garage, or addition. A multi-zone system connects one high-capacity outdoor unit to up to 5+ indoor air handlers (wall mounts, ceiling cassettes, or concealed ducts), allowing you to set independent temperatures across multiple rooms.

Does South Mini Splits offer free shipping?

Yes! We offer free standard shipping on qualifying orders over $300 on select authorized brands across the contiguous U.S. Freight orders are securely strapped to pallets and delivered via trusted carrier partners with tracking updates provided from dispatch to driveway.

Can I install a mini split system myself, or do I need a licensed HVAC technician?

While handy DIYers can complete the physical mounting, line set routing, and component placement, final system start-up, pressure testing, and refrigerant connection must be performed by a licensed EPA-certified HVAC technician to validate manufacturer warranties and ensure leak-free operation.

What indoor unit styles are available besides wall-mounted units?

South Mini Splits carries a wide range of aesthetic and functional indoor air handler styles: • Wall-Mount Systems: Traditional, high-efficiency wall units. • 4-Way & 1-Way Ceiling Cassettes: Low-profile units recessed directly into the ceiling. • Concealed Slim Duct Systems: Hidden in attics or drop ceilings for invisible ductless comfort. • Floor Console Units: Low-profile units ideal for replacing old radiators or knee-wall spaces.

Are South Mini Splits products covered by manufacturer warranties?

Yes. South Mini Splits is an Authorized Dealer for top HVAC brands, including Cooper & Hunter, Bravo, OLMO, Daikin, Goodman, MRCOOL, and ACiQ. Buying through an authorized dealer ensures you receive genuine factory-backed equipment, full manufacturer warranty coverage, and dedicated technical support.

Does South Mini Splits offer HVAC financing?

Yes, we offer flexible financing options—including interest-free installment plans through partners like Afterpay—to help qualified buyers spread out equipment costs over manageable monthly payments during checkout.

What is the difference between R-410A and R-454B refrigerant systems?

R-410A has been the long-standing industry standard refrigerant, while R-454B is a next-generation, low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) refrigerant compliant with newer environmental regulations. South Mini Splits stocks both R-410A inventory for multi-room replacement projects and R-454B systems for modern, eco-friendly builds.

Do you offer special discounts or pricing for HVAC contractors and trade professionals?

Yes. HVAC contractors, builders, and volume purchasers can join our Contractor / VIP Club for exclusive bulk pricing (up to 15% off), dedicated order support, fast quote turnarounds, and job-site shipping options.

How do I get help selecting compatible parts or requesting a custom quote?

You can use our interactive Multi-Zone Builder to design your system or email your project requirements to sales@southminisplits.com. For instant support, call our sales line at (737) 738-6329 or reach our dedicated technical support team Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM CST.

What size mini split do I need for a 500 sq ft room?

A 12,000 BTU mini split system is typically ideal for a 500 square foot space.

What is AFUE, and why does it matter?

AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) measures how efficiently a gas furnace converts fuel to heat. A rating of 90% AFUE means 90 cents of every fuel dollar goes toward heating, while the other 10 cents is wasted. We recommend looking for systems that are Energy Star rated for the best long-term savings.

Should I choose a gas or an electric furnace?

This depends on three factors: Fuel Cost, Climate, and Availability. Gas is usually preferred in very cold climates due to lower operating costs, provided natural gas is readily accessible. Electric furnaces are often simpler and cheaper to install in areas with mild winters.

Can a new furnace work with my old central AC system?

Yes. Most new furnaces can be connected to older, functional central air conditioners. However, for peak efficiency, we always recommend pairing your new furnace with a new, compatible outdoor AC unit to ensure the components are perfectly matched for optimal performance.

What is the most important maintenance I need to do for my furnace?

The single most important maintenance task is regularly replacing or cleaning your air filter. A clogged filter restricts airflow, forcing the furnace to work harder, which raises energy bills and can lead to system overheating or damage. Check your filter every 30-90 days, depending on usage and filter type.

What are the benefits of a "Variable-Speed" Blower?

Furnaces with variable-speed blowers offer superior comfort and efficiency. Instead of running at full blast, they can slowly ramp up and down to gently circulate air. This provides quieter operation, improves humidity control, and ensures more consistent temperatures throughout your home, eliminating hot and cold spots.

What size mini split do I need for a 500 sq ft room?
