Accumulator

An accumulator is a storage tank located near the compressor that prevents liquid refrigerant from entering the compressor motor. Since compressors are designed to only pump gas, liquid entering the "heart" of the system can cause immediate failure. This part is a standard safety feature in all our Central Condensers and mini-splits. It is especially important for our Hyper Heat units that operate in extreme cold. You can find technical diagrams showing the accumulator's location in our Technical Data section. If your system is properly charged and maintained, the accumulator should last the life of the unit. It is one of the many "silent protectors" built into our Cooper&Hunter systems. Protecting your compressor is our top priority for long-term reliability.
